20 Photos of woodland area for Game screens.
1) I took this photo because it's a good shot of a path way that I can have my character run across and also look ahead to further items. So here I will have a first person shot of my character and ray gun piece in the distance along with HUD features such as health bar, map, and an indicator of controls. The image manipulation used maybe an artistic cut-out or some other block colour effect.
2) This photo was taken because it's got very tall thin branches which are dark and sort of scary and I figured it would be a good place to give the opportunity to show a action need to progress in this case roll under which will be indicated on screen as a tutorial near the start of the game, along with some tokens to collect for upgrades later. I might use some image manipulation to make the bent branch glow to give more indication.
3) This photo was taken because it got a good source of light so it would make the player feel in no danger but have become in danger and I figured I could add a piece of ray gun on top of the rock and also introduce the enemy of the game "The Agent" and have him in cover behind the trees. I also would add some manipulation above the enemy's head such as a red exclamation mark or some red lighting sparks to indicate anger and that he has noticed you.
4) This photo was taken because I liked the look of the stairs are very old and overgrown which gives very natural feel and thought here I could use another one of the aliens actions to sprint up the stairs and take more stamina to get up them, by doing this the HUD will have the stamina bar decreasing and the sprint action glowing or enlarged and maybe the stairs will have some kind of indication such as arrows or lights on the sides etc.
5) This photo was taken because I though I could add another enemy and have the alien trigger another action "attack". The enemy will pop out of the closest tree and the alien will clench a fist and swing for the enemy, also I could may add another piece of ray gun (token) and add image manipulation to the whole image by making it black and white and red part around the edges to give the feel of the player being hurt.
6) This photo was taken because I liked the way it was dark on one side and light on the other which would indicate the right way to go in the game and I'll exaggeration that more in Photoshop and also I wanted to introduce another action "jump" and have the alien come out of first person and into third person maybe to show the jump over the tree. I'll add some image manipulation as well such as some glowing around the tree for indication and maybe a curved arrow.
7) This photo was taken because I wanted a photo of a sign post which I could manipulate to reasons in my game. I could also add something on top of it such as a token or hint. I also the scenery in the background which looks quite mystical and could be exaggerated to maybe indicate getting closer to the mother ship.
8) This photo was taken because I liked the overgrowth of the grass which would be great indicate maybe to hide from the enemy coming by or to use the ray gun to clear the path. Here I could manipulate some ray gun blasts or maybe some tokens.
9) This photo was taken because I liked the shot of the river across to a path which would be great for some image manipulation such as the agent being stood in the river which some splash effects around him or a blast from the ray gun parting the river or maybe just an indication to do an action such as shoot the tree to cross or jump action etc.
10) This photo was taken because I like the of the wooden path which gives a different type of path which could indicate getting even closer to the mother ship. I also like the way the trees curve over at the top to block most light which give it a more dark and eerie atmosphere. I could manipulate the wooden path to maybe be a bit more brown and stand a bit more, and also add some more obstacles such as a gate or a sort of entrance to show a progression in level.
11) This photo was taken because I like the way the branches cover over the river which could be good for me to add a token underneath it or a special reward. I could make some image manipulation such as splashes in the water and maybe an artistic cut out for some block colours like in the game "Legend of Zelda".
12) This photo was also taken because I thought I could put a token or something in the open patch, I could maybe add some action button in there as well such as "Interact" or "Pick up" etc. Again i would consider adding some manipulation for some block colours and some cel shading.
13) This photo was taken because I wanted a shot to introduce the mother ship hovering in near the end of the game. I would place it behind the trees and add some mist and beams of lights, also I would maybe make the are darker and more mystical to add suspense to the scene.
14) This photo was taken because I liked the way the path curved off to the left leaving an opportunity to add signs on the trees to show where to go next or maybe a warning sign for enemy ahead. For manipulation I would make the tree glow a little and maybe the sign as well.
15) This photo was taken because I like the amount of trees in the shot because now I can add several enemies to the shot and have them out and in cover. I could add a special attack to wipe them all out when in serious danger by using the ray gun. The image manipulation would include the black and white and red around the edges to show injury and some bullets through the air coming towards the character.
16) This was taken because I liked the amount grass which will be good for an obstruction which could be cleared by using the ray gun so I would need to manipulate some blasts and also have the button glow or enlarge to indicate it being pressed.
17) This photo was taken because I like the drop off a ledge, which I can use for an action such as "Jump" with the green part of the ledge manipulated to glow. The photo also looks very dirty and muddy which kind of relates to the bad conditions the alien has been in.
18) This photo was taken because I like the shape the rock makes so I could manipulate a token or piece of ray gun in the middle along with some artistic cut out or some contrast from the outside of the rocks and the inside such as block colours on the outside and then a more focused and detailed part on the inside.
19) This photo was taken because I like the way the tree bends over the path, I thought I could add a token there and to get it you need to use two actions "sprint" and "jump" and I'll indicate where to go by highliting the trees. This photo is quite eerie because of the shape of trees and at the same time sort of mystical like something out of a Disney film.
20) This photo was taken because it looks like the branch could be used as an obstacle in the game and would give the player a chance to use an action such as "roll under" or "jump" or even "ray gun". The image manipulation used would be some highlighted areas such as the obstacle and maybe some zoom effect to notice the obstacle. The area is quite dim but also has a good source of light at the back for a good contrast.

L.O.5 Be able develop visual recording to produce outcomes
Primary recording - Skateboard drawings.
Here I have visually recorded three different pictures of my skateboard on a camera and then drew them using a pencil and illustrator. These are the photos and drawings I did:
Side view.
Top view.
Perspective view.

This is a top view of the skateboard looking down the wheels. I tried to make it look like the front had thicker lines than the back to give emphasis on the depth of the picture. I've also given the wood scratches by using thin lines like manga illustrators would do.

This is a side view of the skateboard, here also I've made the lines thicker at the front and the back thin lines for depth and given the middle hard edges.

This is a perspective drawing that had trouble drawing in pencil so I moved it to illustrator for better guidance. I gave the top layer of wood a thinker line to make it stand out

This is my shaded version of the above I've tried to first cover most of the drawing in a dark shade then erase with low opacity to bring out light patches.
This is my colour version of my side view, I simply sampled the colours of the photograph taken and also added noise to the grip tape to give the grainy effect.
Drawings of :
Insect - Monarch Butterfly. These sketches where done by hand using a pencil to make the rough outline of the insect and then I used fine liner pens and then a brush size fine liner pen to use as replacement for colour and shades because I only wanted to use black and white in these drawings.

Here I concentrated more on the body and legs as that was shown more in this photo than the others.
Here I concentrated more on the hair in the middle of the body as it isn't on the butterflies because of the gender.
Here I concentrated more on the wings and used the fine liner to create white patches as seen in the primary photo.
These where also used with a pencil and fine liner pens. I also for these drawings want them to be only black and white so the brush size fine liner replaced the colour and shade.
Here i also added shade but to express the shade covered by the petals.
And again here.Animal - Koala Bear
These drawings are made on Photoshop because I found it hard to draw on paper and wanted to add some colour to these drawings. I used a colour catching method and then blended the colours together using low opacity and flow and air brush for a better result.
Here I wanted to try and produce a close up of the eye by doing so I need to create a lot of single strands of hair.
Here is a close up of the nose I wanted to try and show difference in shade and light and the top half of the nose.
Demo - Smart Objects.
First I chose my image of Dartmoor forest and added a new layer and filled it with black.
Then went to Filter > Fibre and adjusted it so the layer looked similar to a rain effect.

Now with that done I made a new layer and called it mist and straight away went to Filter > clouds and kept adding cloud till I got a suitable look for mist.
Now here I made the layer a smart object because now I make filter to this layer and I will have the ability to take off and put back on the filters I add.
Now here I've made adjustment with opacity and then chosen Multiply mode for the rain and Screen mode for the mist. This what it looked like.
Ideas generation.
Mind Map
This is a mind map was made to let me see what my game idea will be, i sectioned it to Characters,Theme,Gameplay and Environment. The main things i wanted to concentrate on out of the four where the Characters and the Gameplay.
My Game Idea
The game will revolve around you playing as the alien and trying to escape earth and running away from the agent/detective. The game will start with you already under way from escaping captivity and on the move through central park. You will encounter many obstacles and have to use your Ray Gun to shoot you way through hard places and also to defeat enemies such as other agents (lower class, shown in cloth design).
The Gameplay will involve a lot of running and jumping along with shooting your assorted guns. First you will start off with the Ray Gun but progress to unlock other weapons and then continue to upgrade them by collecting spare parts in levels. The game will also feature a HUD (heads up display) which will include a map, ammo bar, health bar spare parts counter, stamina bar and mainly a button guide like used in the game Legend of Zelda. The design of buttons will be for an Xbox 360.
The environment will be mostly of fields, trees, mud and some rocks. This is because the scene is in a park. There will be mist near the end when the mother ship arrives causing a lot of mist and also maybe some dust.
Theme will be shown in the image manipulation.
Image manipulation.
Source imageThis is a little test to see what kind of style I want to choose. Here I've looked at the watercolour style to if it would look more artistic for my game representing the game "The Journey". The texture is a rocky texture which has a good shape as to what I want the aliens vision looks like.
This is what the image would look like if the alien was injured and on low health.
Concept work
In this task I looked at the work of Jack Eaves who is famous for his great concept work.
The Alien - The Protagonist
This is a full front view of my character the alien. I drew to different styles for the alien one with him in civilian clothes and one with a space suit on. These drawing will be taken into illustrator and Photoshop to add colour and shading to them and try to catch the style of "Legend of Zelda"

This is the side view of the alien the only difference you will see in this drawing is that the alien has a slight belly.
This is a drawing of my character in an action shot running away form the enemy.
The Agent - Enemy
This is a full front view drawing of my enemy in the game "The Agent" his main look is a black suit and sophisticated look with no facial expressions to show that he has no time for fun he just gets the job done.

This is a side shot of "The Agent" there isn't any change on the side because I wanted to keep this character simple.
This is an action shot of "The Agent" showing him just like the alien running in this case after the alien with his gun in hand ready to shoot.
Ray gun concept
This is the ray gun I will use in the game for "The Alien".
Tokens for HUD (heads up display) and in game features.
Health bar
I looked at many different styles of health bars and personally liked the idea of the one below because I like the way they've included a avatar in the circle to show you who's health bar this is, by taking inspiration from this I will produce my own health bar in this style.
Stamina bar
In this game the stamina bar is made very simple and easy to understand by having a stylised font saying stamina and then a yellow bar, I'll include this style into my design.
My Design.
Health bar.
Here I've included an avatar like the one above and given it a classic red for health along with a red cross behind the avatar which is also a sign for health or medic.
Stamina bar.
Here I've included a stylised font like the stamina bar idea above. I chose this font because I thought it looked very futuristic and like something you would see for other alien ideas.
Ray gun pieces.
Upgrades
This ray gun piece will be shown in a tally on the HUD this will be able to spend on upgrades.
Ammo
This ray gun piece will provide ammo to the ray gun which will be shown on the HUD.
Game screens
Game screens to show full profile in action of character.
Here i made the background have an artistic cut out filter and then added blur to the background and the alien to give the effect of running fast.
Full profile.
This is a game screen to show the full view of the alien, here I've added the alien to face the other way as if he was walking away from the camera in 3rd person. I didn't add artistic cut out because the background has too much of the same colour which made it too blocky.
Full profile close up face.

Here I added an artistic cut out and gave the alien a shade to give the effect of cel shading.
